About The Fort

Hidden away in the quiet town of Smithfield, West Virginia, on the unassuming corner of 25243 Shortline Hwy, stands a beacon for pizza lovers: The Fort. This charming brick-walled establishment isn't flashy, but it certainly knows how to craft a memorable pizza. It's the kind of place where flavor speaks for itself, drawing in both locals and those just passing through.

The Fort's menu is a curly page of delicious and mouth-watering possibilities. At first glance, it might seem like your standard listing with the usual suspects: Margherita, Pepperoni, and the like. But delve a bit deeper, and discoveries are made. Take, for example, their signature "West Virginia Wild"—a pizza adorned with wild mushrooms, homemade sausage, and a hint of truffle oil, marrying flavors in a way that tantalizes the palate and echoes in memory.

As the pizzas arrive, the aroma envelopes the senses, compellingly urging one to savor the wood-fired magic. The crust, kissed by the flames to a perfect crisp on the outside, yet retaining a soft and chewy interior, is a masterpiece in itself. Sauce just tangy enough to play off its fresh toppings, with cheese that stretches and melts just the right amount, adds to an almost celestial eating experience.

Sure, some might argue that The Fort is but another dot on the pizza map, yet the tightly-knit community surrounding it would beg to differ. Here, the joy lies not just in the food, but in the ambiance: a laid-back vibe where one feels welcomed to relax. There's a familiar cadence in the chatter of diners you might overhear, probably recommending the fiery "Smithfield Sizzler" to newcomers. It's a symphony of honest, unfussy praise that propels The Fort's reputation onward.

Reviews from patrons highlight not only the exquisite pizzas but also the attentive nature of the team working tirelessly within The Fort. They mention servers who seem to know exactly what will pair perfectly with that second pie, and perhaps far too graciously, never rush a guest who wishes to linger over another glass of Chianti.

In essence, The Fort captures what it means to serve comfort and craft—a place where pizza transcends its simple origins to become an integral part of the community's soul. Stopping by, whether for a slice or a whole pie, becomes more like a warm hug than just a meal. For anyone in or around the quaint town of Smithfield, this spot is undeniably a must-stop. Because sometimes, that's just what the heart needs: a little slice of something exceptional.

I got an order of a BLT pizza tonight and it was awesome. They warned me it may take longer than usual but it took way less than i assumed it would take. I live in Wallace so i expected it to be a while but was definitely pleased when it arrived. Also note the pizza was warm when it arrived.
